DIY Swan Planter Wedding Decor

As I continued planning the décor for my wedding, I wanted to create floral arrangements that felt romantic, collected, and a little unexpected. These swan planters were the perfect way to incorporate flowers while adding a beautiful vintage-inspired detail to the celebration.

I filled each planter with faux hydrangeas, orchids, greenery, and a mix of soft white and green flowers. The finished arrangement feels elegant and garden-inspired, but it can also be prepared well before the wedding day.

How to Make a Swan Planter Floral Arrangement

Follow the step-by-step photo tutorial below to create your own swan planter wedding décor. *Some of the flowers might be in different positions in the picture, I was playing with composition throughout this process. Remember that it's not permanent where you place the flowers, feel what's best for you.

Step 1: Prepare the Swan Planter

Start by placing your floral foam in your planter. I found the best way is to stack them like stairs. By doing this, you are able to also give height to florals.

Step 2: Create the Floral Base

Start incorporating your height pieces and pieces that extend off the swan. This will start giving you a visual of how big and wide your piece will get.

Step 3: Add Roses and Peonies

Before placing them in the arrangement, make sure to spread out their petals for a more fuller and life-like look. These flowers will also act as closing the gaps of your arrangement. Remember to pause, look, walk around the planter to make sure you are filling all the spots up!

Step 4: Add the Hydrangeas

These are the stars of the show! Make sure you place them where you want them to shine.

Step 5: Fill in With Greenery and Accent Flowers

You're almost at the finish line. Incorporate white and green Chrysanthemums, Delphiniums, and more Roses and Peonies.

Step 6: Make Final Adjustments

Double check you have no open spaces. Walk around your planter and step back. Sometimes you notices things by stepping back. Fluff all the flowers to make sure they are full. And there you have it, a finished swan planter.

How to Style Swan Planters at a Wedding

These floral swan planters can be used throughout a wedding ceremony or reception. Style them near the welcome sign, guest book table, bar, sweetheart table, gift table, or ceremony entrance.

They would work especially well for a garden wedding, coastal celebration, vintage-inspired event, or Nancy Meyers-inspired wedding aesthetic.

Final Thoughts

This DIY swan planter arrangement became one of my favorite wedding décor projects. It feels romantic and distinctive while still being simple enough to recreate with faux flowers. You can also use the same method in other planters and arrangements and even table arrangements at a smaller scale.

Preparing the arrangements ahead of time also makes them a practical option for anyone creating their own wedding flowers and decorations.
